ILEETA SHOW – The Importance of Verbal Commands

Sunday, April 17, 2011

Be Rude?  Being rude can protect you?    Absolutely says, Sgt. Don Wieder of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.  Many believe being rude to a threat may escalate the situation.  Truth be told, having the self confidence to use strong verbal commands may scare off a would be attacker.  In fact, Gavin de Becker writes about this exact issue in his book “The Gift of Fear”.  You will not turn a decent person into a rapist or murder by being rude, but you may very well intimidate and scare off someone who does mean to do you harm!

Sgt. Don Wieder is a SABRE Law Enforcement Master Instructor, SABRE Personal Safety Academy Master Instructor and Taser Master Instructor.  Sgt. Wieder is an elite defensive tactics instructor and I had the good fortune to speak with him this past week in Chicago at the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA) Conference.
