June is National Home Safety Month

Sunday, July 06, 2014

As June was both the first month of the summer and National Home Safety Month, I felt it would be an appropriate time to talk about home security, since crime rates tend to increase in the summer months.

With burglary crime rates on the rise as they occur every 14.5 seconds in the U.S., there is a need for reliable and affordable security alarm options to help consumers protect themselves, their loved ones and their property.

SABRE Home Series Products are available at your local Target store, and this marks the first time Target stores have had a dedicated section to home security.

This SABRE Home Series line includes a wide variety of easy-to-use and easy-to-install products.

The SABRE Wireless Home Protection System is the most extensive of the line as its customizable system provides security that can be controlled by a central smart panel or key fob.  With over eight security zones to better help identify the area of intrusion, the system offers various options for homeowners looking to provide protection at multiple entry points in the home.

Additionally, The SABRE Home Series line has a wide array of standalone options like the SABRE Door/Window Alarm, Glass Alarm, Dorm/Apartment Kit, Motion Sensing Alarm, and more.

In addition to the SABRE Home Series, I also feel it is important to raise awareness about personal safety. This is why I decided to start the #SafeIsSmart campaign in the month of June to get consumers engaged in conversation about their safety. We encouraged others to share  #SafeIsSmart tips and advice about how they are protecting themselves and their families across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Here is a video that captures what the #SafeIsSmart campaign is all about:

As the month of June has come to an end, I would like to thank everyone who has participated in the #SafeIsSmart campaign. So many great tips have been shared, and many people say they’ve been inspired to purchase a SABRE Home Series Product.

I would like to give a special thanks to the following bloggers for taking part in our #SafeIsSmart Campaign and spreading the word to raise awareness!

Caitlin Boyle of Healthy Tipping Point

“SABRE’s line of home safety products are now available in-stores at TARGET. I think these would be great investments for someone who lives in a dorm, rents an apartment, or is looking for a more cost-efficient way to add an alarm to their home. And my SABRE pepper spray now lives on my keychain.”

Lauren of Skinny Fat Girl Diary

“June, being National Safety Month, gave me the push I needed to take a realistic look at my personal safety.”

Ericka Andersen of Sweet Life With Ericka

“It’s such a simple step to take the time that could save your life. When you hear about home break-ins or devastating circumstances where someone is harmed or killed, all you can think about is how they could have protected themselves. Chances are, it’s not going to happen to you — but why take the chance?”

Jennifer Cassetta

“As a huge advocate for women’s safety, I am super excited about the #SafeIsSmart campaign sponsored by Sabre personal safety products.”

In addition to these special bloggers here are a few of my favorite posts from viewers like you!

SABRE is donating $1 to RAINN, the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network for every #SafeIsSmart hashtag used in the month of June.

Together, we have shared many tips and facts in regards to our home and personal safety.

Here are a few facts and tips you should keep in mind:

  • 83% of homes in the U.S. don’t have a home security system. Meanwhile, there are 25,000 burglaries in the U.S every day.
  • Over 50% of intruders enter through first floor windows or back doors.
  • Get a house sitter - Ask a trustworthy friend or family member to get your mail while on vacation so burglars can’t see that you’ve been gone.
  • Wait until you’re back home before you share vacation photos on social networks!
  • Hiding your spare key near the front door is usually easy for a criminal to find.
  • Don’t wait for a crime to be committed before you decide to protect your home and family. Guard your home while you still can with a home protection system.

The month of June has ended but I encourage you to continue to spread the word about the importance of home and personal safety. Again, I thank all who has participated in this campaign. And remember. Be Smart. Be ready. Safe is still smart.
